For EXA Infrastructure, TeleGeography’s Data Center Research Service is a crucial toolkit for deploying capital in high-stakes European and Transatlantic bandwidth markets.

TeleGeography’s data center experts map over 6,000 active data centers and identifies the specific connectivity health of 3,000 cities. By filtering data centers by "networks connected," EXA can identify high-capacity sites that are currently underserved by diverse fiber routes, creating a direct business case.

Bandwidth forecasts

While Data Center Research Service provides insight on the "destination" (the hubs), TeleGeography’s Transport Networks Research Service provides the "roadmap" (the pipes).

EXA’s value proposition is high-capacity, low-latency "core-to-core" connectivity. TeleGeography's transport insight provides the hard data to justify where to add "lit" capacity vs. where to acquire dark fiber.

The service also provides seven-year forecasts on international bandwidth, giving EXA insights on where they may want to increase their investment or expand into new regions or routes. 

Traffic intelligence 

While EXA focuses on the physical layer (fiber and subsea), they can plug in the IP Networks Research Service for intelligence on the traffic layer above it.

This allows EXA to align its €500M+ investment strategy with the actual flow of global internet traffic.

By identifying where major Tier-1 carriers and content delivery networks are peering, EXA can market its Managed Fiber Network and Wavelength services as the ideal diverse backhaul to those critical exchange points.

The impact

EXA Infrastructure has transitioned from a period of rapid consolidation to one of large-scale capital deployment.

Following a massive €1.3 billion refinancing in late 2025, the company has hit several major milestones that solidify its position as a leading data center-to-data center connectivity platform.

On December 31, 2025, EXA officially completed the acquisition of Aqua Comms. The deal added multiple critical subsea systems to EXA's portfolio, including AEC-1, AEC-2, CeltixConnect-1 & 2, and participation in the Amitié system.

EXA has also broken several long-standing bottlenecks in the European fiber landscape.

Launched in September 2025, Project Visegrád is the largest cross-border fiber backbone deployment in Central Europe in 25 years. It connects Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, and Hungary directly to EXA's hyperscale hubs in Germany and Austria. And in July 2025, EXA deployed the first new subsea cable in the North Sea in 25 years, linking London to Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and Brussels (FLAP) with a modern, high-fiber-count system.
